Step 1:  Soak the plank in water for at least an hour. Over night is best

  • Place planks in a kitchen sink or large pan. Place enough weight on the planks to hold them completely under water. This can be done with a coffee mug filled with water. Water soaking allows the plank to smolder and not flame up during grilling. The longer the soak, the better.

Step 2: Pre-heat grill and plank

  • Pre-heat the grill for about 5 minutes on medium heat.
  • Place the wet plank on the pre-heated grill and heat up the plank for another 5 minutes before adding the food. This allows the plank to begin to smolder and smoke.

Step 3:  Place food on pre-heated plank, close lid and cook

  • The plank will smolder, creating smoke, cooking the food without drying it out.

Tips:

  • The longer the Outdoor Gourmet Grilling Plank is soaked the better. This is especially true with larger cuts of meat and will reduce chances of flare ups.  Overnight soaking is best.
  • Marinating food in the sauce of your choice or applying spice/salt rubs results in exceptionally moist food.
  • Have a spray bottle of water on hand to douse possible flare ups.
  • Keep grill lid closed while cooking food.
  • Cooking times vary with different foods.
